I saw some freshly cut white pine logs that were cut up after snow damage. Now this was cut up in short pieces so I have no interest in it for lumber, but I saw alot of gooey sap coming out of the sap wood all the way around each piece. Is this the way all white pine is when cut and if so how do they mill it? I've been to mills, but only ever saw hardwood milled. Just curious?

When tou kiln dry the pine it crystalizes the sap so it doesn;t weep any more.

Conifers undergo a final kiln cycle called "resin-set" which is supposed to take care of this problem for display grades. Still a good idea to shellac the surface if you're using pine for a primary.
