I would use either ....
A very sharp block plane. I don't have a LABP.
A very sharp chisel. Do one dovetail at a time.
A router with a flush trim bit.

Larry -

I also hear that clamping a sacrificial board to the end of the piece (so it hides the ends of the dovetails, not the 'top' of the piece you are flattening) and sanding over that sacrificial piece helps keep the profile nice and crisp..

But, I fall into the hand plane mode more often than not.

Ditto Zulu's belt sander. Use the correct grit and you don't get heavy handed and you won't have any problems... Works great for me all the time...
