Well my 10+ yr old Delta 36-600 TS finally gave up the ghost.

It started losing power during a cut then started arcing down inside the cabinet (guessing not good). Like most things that run on electricity once you let the smoke out of them they are toast.

I know it's not the best TS in the world...but for what I do for flatwork it fills my needs. A new Motor is $2-300 so that is out of the equation.

Not sure it is completely dead yet. It could be just the brushes.

I found them at ToolPartsDirect for $6.00 each + shipping.

Has anyone dealt with them for parts? Their site is great with good exploded drawings of most common models.

I also need a 15A 125VAC circuit breaker (pushbutton) to go with it. (Don't ask :-) )

Thanks,

Hey, Nailer, you might be in luck. The motor on my 36-600 shot craps a few years ago and I replaced it at the time for $80. The next year the carriage started to come loose and I was finally in a position to get a new saw (15 years ain't bad, huh?)

I gutted the ole girl for anything useful. Including the motor. We could get real lucky and my new/old one could work for you if you're interested.

If you are I can take a couple a pics and shoot 'em over to see if it looks like it will match up right. You can have it for the cost of the freight.

Lemme know.

Joe.

That could work out to be a sweet deal. I am interested.

Let me get the brushes in and see if that fixes 'er up. If not...We can talk.

I should have them on order tomorrow, be about a week for shipping. I'll let you know after that.

Nailer, having work with motors at different times, I'm thinking if you see smoke it is probably not the rushes it is probably the windings. You can check the brushes before you buy new ones to see if they wore out. I'll check in the morning I think I have some pushmatic breakers, if I do I will let you know and I'll send them to you.

Well just got off phone with Tool Parts Direct.

2 brushes and a replacement circuit breaker are on order.
Total was about $31.00 with shipping.
Parts are due here by end of week.

Hopefully this fixes the problem. (probably not)

Joe, I think I will take you up on your offer after talking to one of the Electrical Engineers here at work. He thinks the windings are toast.

Either way, it would be good to have spare parts on hand.

Let me know what I can do.

Tool Parts Direct got the parts to me on Wednesday.

I got a chance to replace the brushes Thursday night.

It looks like the commutator is the problem. It ate up the new brushes down to nothing in just a few minutes.
I ran the motor mounted to the bench. Lot of sparks and blew all the carbon dust all over the wall :-)

I know I can send the motor shaft out for re-surfacing but I hear that might not be worth it price wise.

If Joe still has his extra motor and is willing to part with it I think I will try replacing the motor.

Or I will be buying a new TS. The Grizzly 1023 might be an option. Unless I find something used.

Thanks,
---Nailer---
