I did some work on mom Morris Chairs! I am also wondering how long should the tenons be for the rails, I am using 2 1/2'' x 2 1/2'' legs.

Well CJ, let me be the first to say, NICE LEGS! :D :D :D

Not sure on the tennon length. I've very little experience on that line, but seems to me I recall hearing a good length would be half the thickness of the leg.

Half the thickness would be plenty. What's equally important is the width since that gives you more long grain contact surface for the glue. The usual recommended thickness is 1/3 of the thickness of your rails.

Frank that was awful :D

CJ - I don't have an answer for your direct question but I just wanted to say I'm impressed by your progress over the years that we've seen on the board here. Your personal shop has been upgraded substantially and your skills have progressed accordingly.

Good on ya'... 8)

My book says tenon length should be 1/2 the thickness. That should be plenty in a leg that size. I always make the mortise a little deeper than the tenon to allow for glue, minor measuring errors (I hear they happen), etc.
