Anybody have any idea what mahogany bowl blanks are selling for? I believe they are Honduran and are 12"X12"X2". I have a guy interested in buying a few, but he didn't like my offer.

Thanks

JB,

Our local supplier Downes and Reader in Stoughton, Mass has Mahogany at these prices. There is a minimum board foot.

Thanks NN

I researched mahogany prices and based my quote to him on those prices. However, he thought I was too high. He said the prices I was using was for "long" boards and he thought the bowl blanks would be cheaper since they are offcuts. I couldn't really find bowl blanks the size of my stuff (12" X 12" X 2"), which is why I was checking here. Anybody know where to get blanks this size, so I can do a little more research?

Thanks again.

retail prices for bowl blanks are higher (much higher in some cases) for wood here in Tucson... tiny little bowl blanks sell for $40 and up.

This being said, I got mine from a local sawyer who sold me mine (very large-- 20x20+ and 5-8 inches thick) for $20 each for mesquite. (as he put it-- it's much less work for him)

I think a lot of it comes down to the market and what you are willing to sell for compared to what buyers are willing to pay. You may need to lower your price if you really want the sale.

The high prices for bowl blanks is the reason I don't make many bowls. The blanks can cost more than I can get in my area for bowls!.
