Strange how the comments refer to a "skew" chisel rather than what he's using, which is a chisel skewed to suit the cut. The toes appear to be doing what my left hand does, holding the tool to the rest while the nimble hand swings and turns.

He certainly doesn't have to worry about burning that thin edge as you would. From the use as a carving tool at the end, it's probably pretty keen.

Interesting how we take some much for granted. Not realising how simple things can really be .But since I have a bad back and cann't lean over I'll just keep my variable speed lathe and duplicater.
